Hyperpigmentation

We're pleased to offer hyperpigmentation laser treatments at our St. John's, Newfoundland studio!

Have you noticed dark spots or uneven areas of colour that don’t seem to fade? You’re not alone.

Hyperpigmentation is a common concern that can develop due to sun exposure, acne, inflammation, hormonal changes, or simply time. It often appears gradually and may become more noticeable as contrast in the skin increases.

For many people, it shows up as lingering dark marks after breakouts, patchy areas of discolouration, or sun spots that stand out more than they used to.

While pigmentation can be persistent, treatment options are available. Laser treatment offers a controlled, gradual approach to hyperpigmentation.

Feel like creams and serums aren't quite doing enough?

Laser can help. Aging is not only about wrinkles, it’s largely about collagen loss and the gradual weakening of the skin’s structural support over time.

As collagen production slows, wrinkles and fine lines can get deeper, skin texture may become less even, elasticity decreases, and pores can appear more noticeable. Skin may also reflect light differently, giving it a less smooth or radiant appearance.

Topicals can support the surface, and injectables can temporarily fill the space.

But true rejuvenation begins with collagen stimulation beneath the surface...

That requires the right technology. We approach aging skin differently.

Why PicoWay® Is Different

Many traditional pigmentation treatments rely heavily on heat to create change in the skin. In some cases, excessive heat can irritate surrounding tissue or trigger further pigment production. We take a more controlled approach.

The Candela PicoWay system delivers ultra-short picosecond pulses that target excess pigment with precision. Instead of relying primarily on heat, this rapid energy creates a photoacoustic effect that breaks pigment into smaller particles while limiting unnecessary thermal impact on surrounding skin.

Clinical advantages include:

  • Ultra-short pulse duration (trillionths of a second)

  • Reduced unnecessary thermal diffusion

  • Improvement in skin texture and tone

  • Minimal downtime compared to ablative resurfacing
